This year sees Uniworld add four new luxury Super Ships to their fleet with brand new debuts in Egypt, Europe and Asia. These elegant, state-of-the-art vessels will sail along some of the world’s most picturesque waterways, allowing guests a fascinating glimpse into daily local life. The addition of two new itineraries in Europe will uncover one of Europe’s best kept secrets, the Moselle River, with its beautiful vineyard and village lined backdrops. In September 2020, Uniworld will debut its first cruise in the Peruvian Amazon in South America with two itineraries.
In 2020, the newly built S.S. Sphinx will join the River Tosca on the world’s longest river, the Nile. Egypt’s popularity continues to rise as travellers seek culture, adventure and history wrapped up in one fascinating destination. As the only luxury river cruise line in Egypt, the launch of Uniworld’s new Super Ship will see the Nile graced with its most luxurious ship to date from late 2020. The S.S. Sphinx boasts three gourmet dining venues, including a private dining room and an al fresco option on the upper deck, as well as a swimming pool, massage room and 42 elegant suites. Continuing the company’s commitment to sustainability, locally sourced Egyptian artwork, fabrics and hand-carved furnishings will be used to bring the beauty of the region to life on-board. This ship will include 12 adventure-filled days to experience Egypt and the Nile’s top sites on Splendours of the Nile.
A new ship will make its debut on the Douro with the launch of Uniworld’s Super Ship São Gabriel. Designed to embody the beautiful Douro River Valley region, the ship will bring the destination to life through its décor and delectable food and wine. The entire top deck will offer all lavishly appointed suites, enhanced with Butler service, giving guests the option to dine at any time they’d like. Guests on S.S. São Gabriel will experience the UNESCO-designated Douro River Valley and indulge in the best of Spanish and Portuguese culture and cutting-edge, locally sourced cuisine on the 11-day Portugal, Spain & the Douro River Valley from Lisbon to Porto.
Uniworld’s European fleet will see another new addition with the complete renovation of the River Countess which will re-emerge as the luxurious S.S. La Venezia, sailing through the waterways of North Italy. Departures on the 8-day Venice & the Gems of Northern Italy will be on board the new Super Ship which soaks up the enchantment of three outer-lying Venetian islands; Burano, Mazzorbo and Torcello and explores seaside towns such as Chioggia and the chance to indulge in the finest Italian fare in Bologna.
Mekong Jewel was the first 2020 addition to the ever expanding Uniworld fleet. This newly built all-suite ship replaced the Mekong Navigator in January 2020 and features a main restaurant and al fresco upper deck eatery. The new ship is 10 metres longer than the Mekong Navigator but with the same capacity meaning more space and amenities for guests. The ships construction is environmentally sound with the use of sustainable and eco-friendly materials including special paint for the hull of the ship which creates less drag caused by bio-fuelling, specially designed ship propellers that increase performance and efficiency, energy-efficient LED light fixtures, automatic air conditioning controls to optimise cooling resources and water cooled air-conditioning system that saves energy.
