We are proud to announce that our parent company, The Travel Corporation, is now a confirmed signatory of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. Through this exciting new initiative, we at Red Carnation Hotels can continue to pave the way in creating a future of sustainable tourism and work with industry members to accelerate climate action in the industry.
The Glasgow Declaration launched on 4th November 2021 as part of the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference. It is a ‘commitment to a decade of climate action in tourism’ focused through five pillars: measure, decarbonise, regenerate, collaborate, and finance. Through its aims and the dedication of its signatories The Declaration strives to improve both the awareness and action of tourism stakeholders across the globe to halve emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero as soon as possible, no later than 2050.
By becoming a signatory, we are committing to the Declaration's overall aim of reducing reliance on 'carbon- and material-intensive ways of delivering visitor experiences' and instead, 'prioritise community and ecosystem wellbeing'. We continue to seek ways to support people, planet, and wildlife across our properties and their local areas. Whether this manifests in wildlife tours, unique sustainable experiences, reducing our reliance on single-use products, or through our community projects, people and planet are consistently at the forefront of our focus.

The Declaration also seeks to see the tourism industry 'achieve net zero emissions as soon as possible'. We are in a privileged position to bolster this aim at Red Carnation Hotels thanks to our own, pre-existing sustainability initiatives. Across our properties, we are committed to reducing our carbon emissions, to sourcing 50% of our electricity from renewable sources by 2025, and to reducing food waste by 50% across all hotels by 2025. We are making significant strides towards each of these targets, and have already achieved 100% renewable electricity at seven of our UK properties.
More specifically, our signature of the Glasgow Declaration pledges our commitment to:
Being a signatory of the Declaration therefore offers an exciting opportunity for us at Red Carnation Hotels to continue and accelerate the work that we have begun in building the future of sustainable tourism. We understand that the work we do now is pivotal in the fight against climate change and look forward to seeing the fruit of our endeavours as we progress.
