Catey Award for Best Sustainable Business

Red Carnation Hotels were delighted to win the Best Sustainable Business at the Catey Awards 2023. This achievement reinforces our commitment to delivering exceptional luxury experiences while preserving our planet for future generations.

We care about…

Our children’s future

We continue to reduce most unnecessary single-use plastics within our hotels and we work with Winnow Solutions to reduce our food waste and measure and manage our energy use. We proudly work with Clean Conscience to recycle leftover toiletries, and stock Belu water throughout our hotels.

We work closely with The TreadRight Foundation and Wild Entrust Africa. Our sustainable initiatives are at the heart of everything we do, from sending organic waste to communities local to Xigera for their garden projects, to protecting a herd of Cape Mountain Zebras and ancient rock art sites, both at Bushmans Kloof.

Our honey bees

We enjoy growing our own ingredients in the hotel kitchen gardens and caring for our hotel bees that make honey for our guests to enjoy at breakfast. Our possession of apiaries at four of our properties, three of which are in London (Hotel 41, The Chesterfield, and The Montague), furthers our sustainable food agenda.

The Living Wall at The Rubens

Our living wall

We are proud to sustain one of London’s largest Living Walls, standing at 350 square metres and with a total of 10,000 herbaceous plants, providing a wildlife habitat for the city’s bees, butterflies, and birds.

Volunteering at Red Carnation Hotels

As Red Carnation Hotels continues to demonstrate its commitment to community service and sustainable practices by donating 2,649 volunteer hours across its 16 properties in 2023, learn what volunteering looks like across our 17 properties.

Net zero

Through our sustainability strategy, we are striving to reach a status of net zero GHG emissions by 2050. We have implemented a series of near-term and long-term targets that are validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), and centre our initiative on decarbonisation - the most effective method of addressing climate change.

How our hotels balance luxury and sustainability

At Red Carnation, we take pride in prioritising sustainability across our hotel collection while still maintaining a feel of luxury. This commitment is evident through initiatives in climate action, food waste reduction, and immersive experiences aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development goals, ensuring a positive environmental and social impact for our guests.
