Commitment to a responsible future

Our ethos

Our commitment to sustainability is driven by dedicated teams across our properties and guided by clear, measurable goals. Through our partnership with EarthCheck, we’re working together to reduce our environmental impact and contribute positively to the places we call home.

A comprehensive approach

Carbon reduction

We are working to lower our carbon footprint through energy-efficient practices and by supporting the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. With EarthCheck, we are tracking our progress towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Energy & water

Resource management

We’re focused on reducing our energy and water use through smarter systems, renewable energy, and daily efforts from our teams. These actions help us move closer to our carbon goals while using resources more responsibly.

From strategy to success

Food sustainability

In our kitchens, we prioritise reducing food waste and sourcing locally where possible. Working with partners like Winnow Solutions, we’ve already cut food waste by 42% and are on track to meet our target of 50%.

Meaningful connections

Sustainable experiences

We offer experiences that allow guests to connect meaningfully with the places they visit - through community projects, conservation work, and cultural experiences that reflect the values behind our sustainability journey.

Preserving natural heritage

Biodiversity

We take care to protect local ecosystems and support wildlife through responsible operations and guest experiences. Our policies focus on ethical wildlife encounters and contributing to local conservation efforts.

Committed to community

Sustainable partnerships

Our teams work closely with local organisations and charities such as The Starlight Foundation and Hospitality Action. By supporting these partnerships and encouraging volunteering, we aim to make a positive impact in our communities.

Leading with purpose

"As I reflect on my journey with Red Carnation Hotels - from my beginnings as a housekeeper through various leadership roles and as General Manager of The Egerton House Hotel - I am profoundly honoured to now lead our global sustainability efforts as Vice President of Sustainability.

Throughout my years with this remarkable organisation, I have witnessed firsthand how deeply sustainability is woven into our culture. What began as isolated initiatives has evolved into a comprehensive vision that touches every aspect of our operations. Our partnership with EarthCheck marks an exciting new chapter in this journey, providing us with a robust framework to measure our progress and hold ourselves accountable.

The pages that follow outline our commitment to environmental stewardship, community engagement, and responsible luxury. But beyond these words lies the true heart of our sustainability efforts: the passionate individuals across our properties who bring these principles to life every day. From our chefs creating innovative zero-waste dishes to our teams volunteering in local communities, it is their dedication that transforms ambition into impact.

Our path to sustainability is not without challenges, particularly as we work toward our net-zero emissions goal by 2050. Yet I am inspired by what we have already accomplished - reducing food waste by 42%, transitioning to renewable energy across most of our properties, and creating meaningful experiences that connect our guests with the natural world.

As we move forward, we remain committed to balancing exceptional luxury with environmental responsibility. I invite you to join us on this journey - whether as a guest, a team member, or a partner - as we work together to ensure that the beauty and wonder of our world endures for generations to come."

- Michelle Devlin, Vice President of Sustainability
