We are so proud of our collection of hotels in London – each one unique and in an exceptional location in this great city. This half-day tour with celebrated Blue Badge Guide Russell Nash takes in all six hotels in the capital, exploring the biggest attractions, some of our long-standing partners and the hidden corners of the neighbourhoods that we are fortunate to call our local community.
We start at The Montague on the Gardens in Bloomsbury, London’s literary, scientific and intellectual heartland. Enjoy a refreshing drink on the al fresco garden terrace or a warming cocktail in the cosy Leopard Bar at The Montague, a charming Georgian townhouse. Charles Dickens lived in this district when he wrote some of his best-known books, including Oliver Twist. His house is open to the public and is a fascinating insight to the great man’s private life.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the delightful squares of Bloomsbury were home to other famous writers such as Virginia Woolf. You will also find the British Museum here, the world’s preeminent museum of human civilisation and culture. From across the world and the ages, all human life can be found here.
Our walk then takes in Soho, the bohemian heartland of the West End. Discover quirky shops, restaurants and cafes mixed with the headquarters of Britain’s film, television, music and creative industries. Hear the amazing stories of the people who have visited and lived here over the past 400 years. Any time, day or night, Soho is buzzing with energy. In Covent Garden is the renowned covered market where the best street entertainers in the world come to perform - the centre of London’s theatre district and full of unexpected delights. Discover some of the most Instagrammed spots in town.
Next up it is Leicester Square for film premiers and all the sights of London made of Lego. At Piccadilly Circus, the world’s largest LED screen will dazzle you. For those with strong stomachs, try the Body Worlds exhibition.
Along Piccadilly, we will stop in at Fortnum and Mason, where the Queen buys her groceries. The food hall is the perfect place for cakes, biscuits, and preserves to take home with you. For art lovers there is the Royal Academy, the UK’s premier artistic institution or the National Gallery.
Behind London’s fanciest Shopping Arcade lies The Chesterfield Mayfair, a tranquil haven from the bustle outside. Perhaps stay a little longer and enjoy a whimsical Afternoon Tea inspired by a traditional sweetshop, a molecular cocktail or a gin-tasting experience in the bottle-green Terrace Bar.
We will then cross Green Park to see the most famous address in London, Buckingham Palace. If we time it right, your guide will get you the very best spot for the best photos for the Changing of the Guard ceremony. Otherwise, hear about the royal district and some of its residents, past and present.
We will then arrive at Hotel 41 and The Rubens at the Palace, opposite the Royal Mews. Choose from the Leopard Bar, renowned for the finest sushi and sake, as well as whiskies and Champagnes, or the striking New York Bar, with delicious sharing stands, outstanding cocktails and live music.
Belgravia is one of the finest residential addresses in town. Discover the grand squares and hidden mews that make this such a desirable place to live. A short while later we will see Hyde Park and Harrods department store.
From there, in no time we will arrive at The Egerton House Hotel. Expect the warmest welcome in the Drawing Room, where Afternoon Tea (including one for dogs) is served in front of the fire, or sample London’s best Martini in the intimate bar.
Just over the road are three of London’s great, free, museums. First up is the Science Museum. This hands on, interactive museum is full of the wonders of the scientific world. The Victoria and Albert Museum is the world’s greatest museum of decorative arts. Finally, The Natural History Museum is full of the wonders of the natural world in one of London’s finest buildings.
From there we will the see the sumptuous Albert Memorial, the Princess Diana Memorial Playground and Royal Albert Hall. Kensington is well known for its grand high street of shops but there are boutiques and cafes tucked away if you know where to look.
We end our trip at Kensington Palace. This spectacular Baroque palace is nowadays the home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their family. In the recent past, it was the home of Prince William’s mother, Diana. The historic rooms take you back to the glamorous courts of Queen Anne, Queen Caroline and King George II. Just imagine yourself at one of their stately parties! There are also special exhibitions, usually with a fashion focus.
Finish at The Milestone Hotel & Residences, just over the road. Settle into the hidden Stables Bar and discover the hotel’s Smoking Old Fashioned, one of a selection of outstanding signature cocktails, with delicious canapés.
