What is your role at The Lodge at Ashford Castle?

I am the Accommodation Manager and I have worked here for 14 years.

What was your background before you worked at The Lodge at Ashford Castle?

I spent 7 years working in Ashford Castle, in the George V Restaurant before moving to the Accommodation team.

What was your first experience of The Lodge at Ashford Castle?

My first experience of the Lodge was when it was still a building site... I was wearing a hard hat when I was shown around!

Tell me something about The Lodge that people might not know?

The previous General Manager of Ashford Castle Rory Murphy lived here for 30 years with his family.

What makes The Lodge so special?

The people I work with and the friends I have made over the past 14 years.

What does a typical day at The Lodge look like for you?

Every day is different, I start with meeting the night team and go through the reports for the day. Later, I check emails and manage the vacant rooms and those which need to be cleaned. I regularly attend meetings and order needed stock.

What is your favourite part of your role?

Seeing the bedrooms and hotel looking their best and to hear guests commenting on how much they love it here.

What do you do to relax when you are not working?

Having three boys at home it's hard to relax, they always have something to do or somewhere to go (football training), but I love to go for a walk in the evening with my neighbours.

What three words would you use to describe The Lodge?

Welcoming, unique and idyllic.

What is the proudest achievement of your time at The Lodge at Ashford Castle?

My proudest moment was when I was voted Manager of the Quarter by my colleagues.
