Q&A with Adam Cameron | Craftsmanship, Luxury & The Workers Club

Founded by Adam Cameron and Charlotte Cameron, The Workers Club has built a reputation for creating timeless wardrobe essentials rooted in quality, craftsmanship, and longevity. In this conversation, Adam shares the inspiration behind the brand, his perspective on modern luxury, and why thoughtful design, exceptional materials and an unhurried approach remain at the heart of everything they do.Can you tell us a little about The Workers Club and what inspired you to create the brand?The Workers Club started in 2015, founded by my wife Charlotte and me. Between us we'd spent close to thirty years in the industry – I was head of menswear at Dunhill and led the Kingsman collection at Mr Porter, and Charlotte's background is in high street design – so we'd seen fashion from both ends of the spectrum. What we hadn't seen enough of was clothing that just worked: pieces built to be worn hard, for years, without falling apart or falling out of style.The name comes from a 1920s Constructivist idea by Aleksandr Rodchenko – a 'workers' club', a shared space built for collaboration and getting things done. That's the spirit we wanted: no pretence, just purposeful design. Our first piece, a coat we called The Works, took six months to get right and introduced the layering concept that's still core to how we design today. Everything since has grown from that same instinct – buy less, buy better.That instinct is really what led us to open The Atelier at our Chiltern Street store – our Made to Order service. Ready-to-wear was always the foundation, but I trained as a tailor, and there's a natural point where 'buy better' becomes 'have it made properly, for you'. The Atelier is that – a return to the older, slower way of doing things: a proper consultation, cloth you can put your hands on, a garment built around your own proportions rather than a size on a rail.What values have remained constant since the beginning?Fabric first, always. We're purists about it – whether that's 13oz denim from Okayama, Swiss Riri zips, or wool from a family-run mill in Scotland. If the material isn't right, the garment isn't worth making.The other constant is our refusal to work to a fashion calendar. We're not chasing seasons or trends – we're building a wardrobe of things that hold their value and their shape, physically and stylistically. That's why we back our denim with a five-year guarantee. If you're asking someone to invest in a piece, you'd better be confident it'll still be earning its place in five years' time.And time, itself, has stayed a value. Nothing at TWC is rushed – whether that's the six months it took to perfect The Works, or the four to six weeks a Made to Order suit takes from first fitting to collection. We've never been in a hurry, and I think that's exactly what people are craving again.What does luxury mean to you in today's world?I think real luxury has quietly moved away from logos and towards longevity. It's a garment you don't have to think about – the fit's right, the fabric ages well, the stitching holds. That's a much harder thing to deliver than a recognisable label, and it's a much more honest one.For us, luxury is form and function in equilibrium – every detail justified, nothing decorative for its own sake. It's the confidence of knowing something was made properly, by people who understood the material, rather than the noise of knowing it was expensive.Nowhere does that show up more clearly than in the Atelier. An hour with a coffee, working through cloth and cut with someone who actually understands both – that unhurried attention is the real luxury now. Far more than anything you could buy off a shelf.If a Red Carnation guest is discovering your brand for the first time, what do you hope they take away from the experience?For most guests, that first encounter will be through the Atelier – our Made to Order service at Chiltern Street – and that's exactly where I'd want them to meet us. It's not a transaction, it's a conversation. You come in, we put a coffee in your hand, and we talk through what you actually want, whether that's a suit for a wedding or a jacket you'll wear every week for a decade. We go through cloth together – Loro Piana, Dormeuil, some rarer Japanese fabrics we source directly – and build the piece around you: the cut, the lapel, the lining, a monogram if you want one. Three appointments, four to six weeks, and you leave with something that's genuinely yours.I'd hope a Red Carnation guest recognises that same instinct straightaway, because it's the same one behind good hospitality – nothing rushed, nothing generic, everything considered for the person in front of you. If they walk out of Chiltern Street thinking 'that's a piece I'll still be wearing in ten years', we've done our job.
